7x70

That was then, this is now

22 January - 31 March 2021

1970 was a pivotal year, not only in art, but also in politics and society as a whole. It was the year the Concorde performed its first supersonic flight, the voting age in the US and the UK was lowered to 18, in Washington DC 100,000 people demonstrated against the Vietnam War, the first Earth Day took place and the Beatles split up. It was also the year of “Houston, we’ve had a problem here” (yes, that's what they actually said) and Mick Jagger got fined £200 for possession of cannabis. In Belgium the first in a series of state reforms took place.

In 7x70, ZEIT shows a series of artworks from half a century ago and combines them with seven commissioned works by seven contemporary artists inspired by the themes / aesthetics / colours and shapes of the era.

Includes works by:

Kristien Dirkx, Ann Rikkers, Jesse Willems, Brecht Vandenbroucke, Rafaël Voets, Geert Verbruggen and Filip Collin, alongside prints and original works from 1970 by Bram Bogart, Guy Vandenbranden, Cel Overberghe, Luc Peire, Geneviève Claisse, Thomas Lenk, Ibram Lassaw, Pol Mara, Lothar Quinte, Sanford Wurmfeld, Yvaral, Paul Van Hoeydonck, Eduardo Paolozzi and Victor Vasarely amongst others.
